Monday 8th June
UK Open review

Just a quick review of the event.

Colin Osbourne did us proud beating Painter 10-7 in the semi's to reach the final where he eventually went down to Taylor. Have to admit I thought for a moment we may have a game on when Osbourne went 3-0 up in the final but from then on it was the usual Taylor demolition job. Still very nice to end the event with a 50/1 e/w winner especially when he was our only bet in a 129 strong field.

Our final figures for the tournament are:

Bets - 14
Winners - 9
Strikerate - 64%
Profit - + 52.80 pts
ROI - 39.6%

I would have took those figures at the start of the week so no complaints here, allthough there is a touch of regret that I had that stupid Colin Lloyd bet and that Co Stompe couldn't finish off our treble bet on Day 2 which would have turned good figures into great figures. Overall though I'm not going to complain at a 39% profit.

As far as what we actually saw at the event I thought there were some good performances from some up-and-comers (which I'll keep close to my chest in case they qualify for Vegas or the Matchplay next month) while a lot of the big names struggled. Barney especially was as poor as I've ever seen him. I spoke to some people yesterday who said the general vibe amongst the players was that Barney was on the slide. I think he'll be back though, he just needs to get his head right. My amateur psychologist analysis is that he needs to stop messing with his darts and stop obsessing about being better than Phil Taylor and accept his lot. Being the 2nd best player in the world is still worth around £500k - £1m per year so its not a bad living! Taylor and Wade both went through bad patches in the last couple of years and both are now better than ever so I'm sure Barney will bounce back and we may get a bit of value on him when he does.

The next major event is the Las Vegas Desert Classic at the end of this month, followed by the World Matchplay a few weeks later. The next off-TV floor event is this weekend so I'll do an unofficial write-up for that for those who like to bet in the floor events. Will be sent at 10.00am Saturday morning.

Premier League Review

Well it is finally over! james Wade winning last night took our final figures for the Premier League to

Bets - 18
Winners - 9
Strikerate - 50%
Profit - + 101.80 pts
ROI - 56.5%

Am very pleased with those figures as I thought it was a really tough event to bet in this year. The fact there were 4 dominant players (Taylor, Barney, Wade, King) and 4 lesser players (Part, Jenkins, Mardle, Klaasen) meant betting opportunities were hard to come by. The withdrawal of Wayne Mardle and the subsequent "challenge games" that replaced him also made betting on the event more difficult. By being selective we managed to show a very decent profit though which is very satisfying.

The league needs a shake-up and that is what it should get next year. It is highly unlikely that Part or Jenkins will qualify automatically and I cant imagine they will be given a wildcard entry. I would be surprised if Mardle or Klaasen got wildcards again either so we should be looking at a fresh, more competitive line-up next year. I'd imagine Gary Anderson will be there one way or another. Unless he wins the World Championship in December he wont qualify automatically but he'd be a guarantee to get a wildcard you would have thought. The other 3 places though (2 automatic, 1 wildcard) could go to any of 10 or 12 players.

The next major event is the UK Open Finals starting on the 4th June. More info on the event when we get closer to the time.
